Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics

This approximately 2-hour course provides nurses with foundational knowledge of the legal, regulatory and ethical principles that guide professional nursing practice. Participants will explore the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the guidance provided by the Texas Board of Nursing through Board Rules, Nursing Practice Guidelines, Position Statements and published Board interpretations. They will also examine key concepts in nursing ethics, professional accountability, patient rights, confidentiality and professional boundaries while developing the skills to identify legal and ethical issues, apply relevant principles and make informed decisions that support safe, competent and professional patient care.
